PORTSMOUTH ā Portsmouth Primary Care Associates invites the public to “Everybody In, Nobody Out, One Group, One Plan, One Rate,” a forum on health care reform from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Frank Jones Center on the Route 1 Bypass.
The forum features Dr. Oliver Fein, president of the Physicians for a National Health Program and a professor of medicine and public health at Cornell University. Physicians for a National Health Program claim the new federal health care law entrenches private industry and won’t solve the national health care crisis. It instead continues to call for a single-payer national system it says would save $400 billion annually ā enough to cover the nation’s 46 million uninsured.
“The legislation is a handout to a the private health insurance industry, which makes billions in profits by denying claims, cancelling coverage and raising premiums,” Fein said. “The only way to end health insurance industry abuse is through the creation of a national health insurance system, an expanded and improved Medicare for All.”
Dr. Thomas Clairmont, a Portsmouth physician and the PNHP local chapter leader, said the group’s objective is for every American citizen to have full coverage from birth to death, with comprehensive, affordable, portable, full-choice coverage with doctors and hospitals. “We replace the thousands of insurance plans with a myriad of options with an expanded and improved Medicare for All plan, which is easy to access and understand,” he said.
