Three doctors from Portland are among the 2,200 physicians from across the U.S. who signed a proposal for a publicly financed, single-payer health system.
The proposal, drafted by the nonprofit Physicians for a National Health Program and published in the American Journal of Public Health, calls for replacing the Affordable Care Act with a national program that would cover everyone at a lower cost “by eliminating the profit-driven private insurance industry with its massive overhead.”
