EN ESPAÑOL

Monday, Dec. 22, and Thursday, Jan. 15, have been designated National Call-In Days to Support Single-Payer Health Care by a broad coalition of civic, labor, religious and professional groups, including Physicians for a National Health Program. Take a few minutes to call your elected officials and urge them to support H.R. 676, the U.S. National Health Insurance Act. More…

National Call-In Days for Single Payer

With your help for just a few minutes, we can get the message through to our elected officials that physicians, nurses and other health professionals, not to mention the congressperson’s constituents and the vast majority of the U.S. public, want single-payer national health insurance, an improved “Medicare for All.”

Make a call over the next few weeks —- especially on Dec. 22 and Jan. 15 —- and tell your representative that you want to see our dysfunctional, fragmented, and wasteful system of financing through private insurers replaced by an efficient and equitable single-payer system.

We want to reach all members of Congress with our message. Current co-sponsors should be thanked for their support and encouraged to get active behind H.R. 676. Non-co-sponsors should be asked to get on board with H.R. 676.

Every call counts. Here’s how to do it:

1. If you don’t know if your representative is already a sponsor of H.R. 676, check here.

2. Call or fax your representative. If you don’t know your congressperson’s district office phone or fax numbers, follow these easy steps:

  • Enter your ZIP code in the top left of the page.
  • Click on a congressperson.
  • Click on “Complete Contact Information” under their photo.
  • Their district office phone number and address are under their photo.

Ask for the Chief of Staff or Health Care Aid to leave your message (not just the first person who answers the phone) and use these scripts to help shape the message of your call.

H.R. 676 Co-sponsor call: Hi, my name is ____________. I am calling to thank Representative ___________________ for his/her support of H.R. 676, John Conyers’ National Health Insurance Act. Rep. Conyers plans to reintroduce H.R. 676 shortly after the Congress is back in session in January, but I want to reaffirm my support for H.R. 676, single-payer health care legislation and ask Rep. ____________________ to do the same by signing on again as a co-sponsor working for true reform of this terrible health care system. I say no to Massachusetts-style health care, and yes to single-payer health care as proposed in H.R. 676. Single payer gives more freedom of choice and access to quality care for patients and it is the most economical way to make sure we all can access care when we need it. Now is the time to give the gift of health care for all to every American. Happy holidays and thank you. If you have any questions about single payer or about me, please call me at __________________.

Non-co-sponsors call: Hi, my name is ______________. I am calling to urge Representative ___________________ to support of H.R. 676, John Conyers’ National Health Insurance Act. Rep. Contact Senator Kennedy at his in-district office. Phone: 617-565-3170 / Fax: 617-565-3183. Senator Kennedy is proposing health care legislation early next year, and he needs to know that we want it to be single payer.

Message to Senator Kennedy: Hi, my name is ____________. I am calling to urge Senator Kennedy to make his proposed legislation for health care reform single payer. The current reform in Massachusetts is leaving thousands uninsured and is far too expensive to be sustained because it leaves the for-profit, private health insurance industry in the middle of our health care system. Say no to Massachusetts-style health care, and yes to single-payer health care as proposed in H.R. 676. Happy holidays and thank you. If you have any questions about single payer or about me, please call me at __________________.
